Once again, Discover South Carolina brought their hallmark class, warmth, and Southern style to the GTE Convention — this year as the event’s primary sponsor. Their presence was felt not only through their engaging participation but also through their generous hosting of the Monday evening dinner, an al fresco barbecue that transported guests from the English countryside straight to the Carolinas. The weather even played along, delivering a warm, golden evening that could have easily been mistaken for a South Carolina sunset.
As always, Discover South Carolina used the occasion to demonstrate why they are recognised as masters of golf destination marketing. Their ability to keep 90 golf courses thriving along a 50-mile stretch of Myrtle Beach is nothing short of remarkable. It’s a testament to the state’s well-earned reputation as a golfing paradise — one they showcased beautifully during the convention.
But the Myrtle Beach story is only part of South Carolina’s golf tapestry. Delegates were reminded of the state’s other crown jewels: the dramatic Kiawah Island with its legendary Ocean Course, and the sophisticated Hilton Head Island, home to the iconic Harbour Town Golf Links — a long-standing PGA Tour stop that has tested the world’s finest golfers for decades.
For serious golfers, South Carolina remains a bucket-list destination. From the wind-swept challenge of Kiawah to the precision required at Harbour Town, and the sheer variety along the Grand Strand, it offers golf that is both abundant and world-class. Coupled with Southern hospitality, the historic charm of Charleston, and a climate that encourages year-round play, the state’s appeal is undeniable.
